FAQ

KidsRights, founded in 2003, is an international nongovernmental organisation that promotes the wellbeing of vulnerable children across the world and advocates for the realisation of their rights. KidsRights strives for a world where all children have access to their rights and are empowered to realise
the great potential they carry within them. KidsRights sees children as ‘changemakers’ who have the power to move the world and facilitates them in voicing their opinions and in taking action to bring about change. KidsRights supports children by commanding global attention for the realisation of children’s rights and acting as a catalyst to ignite change, together with children and youth. This advocacy is
supported with research and action. As a matter of fact, KidsRights is the founder of the prestigious International Children's Peace Prize and the organisation behind the annual KidsRights Index. You can read more about KidsRights here.

Although KidsRights is an international NGO, working with young people and projects all over the world, the KidsRights’ office is in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

KidsRights has three core focus: advocacy, research, and action.

Advocacy: KidsRights do advocacy in order to raise awareness about children’s rights, and ensure children’s rights are put on the agenda of policy makers worldwide. Together with children, we speak out to world leaders, influence policy, and engage a worldwide audience to act for positive change. One of the main activity is the International Children’s Peace Prize (ICPP) is awarded annually to a child who fights courageously for children’s rights. You can read more about the Advocacy Program here.

Research: KidsRights conducts research to provide information on children’s rights. Our research provides a scientific background to our programs to improve international children’s rights. Every year we publish the KidsRights Index and a KidsRights Report. You can read more about the Research Program here.

Action: KidsRights reaches and unites youth all over the world even in the most remote areas. Through quartely preferenda youth gives their views and ideas on the most pressing issues of this time. With this input, we enable them and they inspire each other to come with community based action plans. To directly realize child participation and children’s rights, KidsRights supports the grassroots projects and actions of young changemakers. KidsRights also prove them with toolkits and blended training for them to become active actors of change. You can read more about the Action Program here.

The State of Youth aims to empower the youth community (12-24 years) by building a non-political, non-religious digital “state” that transcends borders. On this unique for youth-by-youth platform, founded by KidsRights and connected by Facebook, State of Youth focuses its attention, voice and vision on the key UN Sustainable Development Goals (“issues”). You can read more about the State of Youth here.

The State of Youth is a digital “state” that transcends borders. This way, children from all over the world participate, even those in remote areas.

The State of Youth creates awareness on the Sustainable Development Goals, calls for action on important matters and updates our community about changemakers and their projects. To create a sustainable youth movement there has to be a combination of online and offline action. The Chapters program aims at mobilizing children on the ground in their local communities to take matters into their own hands. You can read more about the State of Youth activities here.

KidsRights is the parent organization behind the State of Youth.

No, they cannot. There is no way for users to communicate amongst themselves.

H&M and KidsRights have a common vision to connect and enable children to drive real change. In that vein, we decided to join forces and collaborate to follow up on the H&M’s Role Models Campaign. H&M wants to support, improve, and contribute to a better future for children and parents alike. They believe that the world needs to embrace the optimistic, collaborative, free-thinking spirit of children. Thus, H&M decided to financially support the creation of this platform.

Every child has rights, and all children have the same rights. These rights are listed in the United Nation’s Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). Every country in the world, except the United States of America, ratified this convention. The CRC lists all the rights of children such as the right to education, the right to not be discriminated against, and the right to freedom of expression.

Children need to have special rights because they can sometimes be more vulnerable than adults. Children have limited political or social power and are financially dependent on adults. They also cannot protect themselves and are more vulnerable to maltreatment. In addition, actions or inactions of government and adults often impact them the most. Therefore, it is important to have special rules that apply to children in order to create a world in which they can be healthy, learn, play and live up to their talents in all safety.

The Sustainable Development Goals, also known as SDGs, were adopted by all the United Nations Member States in September 2015. In total, there are 17 Sustainable Development Goals. They are an urgent call for action by all countries in a global partnership by 2030.
